Reverse Engineering

Reverse engineering is the reverse modelling of objects from digitalized and scanned stock, that is, the creation of a technical model. The aim of reverse modelling is to create a digital CAD file of the object which matches the characteristics of the original model (curves, shapes, rounded edges, etc.) as closely as possible.

Examples of use include:

  • reverse modelling and the possible modification of existing parts due to a lack of technical drawings;producing spare parts;
  • remanufacturing a faulty part;
  • redesigning a product due to a change of material, e.g. for 3D printing;
  • restoration, remanufacturing building components and making modifications;
  • manufacturing medical devices and prostheses.
